Tim Dyer, Business Development Manager for Precision Ceramics USA, supporting advanced ceramics customers across Northern California and the Western United States

Business Development Manager | Northern California.

Customers across Northern California and the wider Western United States now have direct access to additional local technical and commercial support from Precision Ceramics. Tim Dyer has joined the Precision Ceramics USA team as Business Development Manager, bringing more than 35 years of experience in advanced ceramics, materials science and high-precision manufacturing.
Working with OEMs, engineers and product-development teams, Tim will help customers evaluate material options, solve component challenges and progress high-performance ceramic projects from early-stage design through to manufacture.

More Than 35 Years of Advanced Ceramics Experience

Tim’s career combines technical engineering knowledge with senior commercial and operational leadership. Most recently, he led engineering and product development for Fralock’s Engineered Technical Ceramics division, supporting the development of products made from alumina, sapphire, silicon carbide, silicon nitride and aluminium nitride.
His experience spans oxide, carbide and nitride ceramic systems, including approximately two decades working with carbide and nitride materials. This broad materials knowledge allows him to support customers in balancing thermal, electrical, mechanical and chemical requirements when selecting materials for demanding applications.
Tim also brings practical expertise in metallurgical thermochemistry, high-energy plasmas, high-pressure fluid systems, thermal and electrical energy storage, ceramic slurry rheology, statistical data analysis and component-solution design. He has worked within quality environments including NQA-1, AS9100 and ISO 9001.

Supporting Strategic Industries Across the Western United States

Tim has led teams developing components and system solutions for semiconductor, medical, defence, energy, water-processing and space applications. These industries closely align with the advanced ceramic materials, precision machining and component-development capabilities offered by Precision Ceramics.
Based in Auburn, California, Tim is well positioned to support organisations across Northern California and the wider western region including Silicon Valley. His appointment strengthens the local connection between Precision Ceramics and engineering teams working in sectors where material performance, dimensional accuracy and dependable supply are critical.
Customers can draw on Tim’s application knowledge when considering advanced ceramics for semiconductor equipment, aerospace and space systems, medical technologies, energy applications and other technically demanding environments.

Engineering and Business Leadership

Before joining Fralock, Tim served as President and CEO of Elcon Precision in San Jose, California. During his tenure, the business more than doubled its top-line sales while supplying mission-critical components to medical, energy and aerospace customers.
His project experience includes work associated with the NEXT-C ion propulsion system used for NASA’s DART mission, as well as compact 3D silicon-based lithium batteries, ceramic pumps for seawater desalination, excimer lasers, chemical mechanical planarisation (CMP), chemical vapour deposition (CVD) and advanced semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
This combination of technical depth and business leadership will help Precision Ceramics support customers not only with material selection, but also with manufacturability, development strategy, supply-chain considerations and the progression of complex ceramic components towards production.

Academic and Industry Collaboration

Alongside his industrial career, Tim contributes to the UC Davis College of Engineering’s materials science and engineering industrial advisory activities and serves as Chairman of the Northern California Section of The American Ceramic Society.
He holds 35 US patents and has published numerous technical papers covering advanced ceramics, materials science and supply-chain development. His continued involvement with academic and professional organisations helps him remain closely connected to emerging technologies, research priorities and industry challenges.
